About what is the Charlotte NC greyhound station like

What is the Charlotte NC greyhound station like?
My husband myself and our almost 2yr old son have a five and a half hr. layover at 1:30 am. Should I spend money on a hotel room? we are traveling on a budget. Know of any cheap motels near the terminal? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

ooh i live in Charlotte! but I have no idea what you're talking about! LOL I've never ridden a greayhound bus or seen the station, but your best bet is to stay in a hotel downtown.

It depends. I was there a few years ago from 230am-7am. It was kind of odd. Obviously its going to be a bit lower-class (it is a bus station after all), but there were plenty of people around so it seemed safe enough (I was a 18yo college student). The worst part was when I was changing clothes in the bathroom some guy came up to me when I was leaving to try to sell me some jewelry (in the trench coat, like the movies). I would just make sure you stay awake and together the whole time. In the last few years Charlotte has really cleaned things up I've heard, so it might be better. I don't know if a hotel room would be worth it, by the time you get off the bus (provided its on time), get a cab to a hotel, and check in, you would probably only have a couple hours in the hotel room before you had to be back at the station. Hope this helps!

I would think based upon the time of night you may want to get a hotel. The bus station is right in downtown. Downtown is full of hotels ranging from 4-5 star to less. I looked up on Hotel.com and can find rates nearthe bus station of $55 a night. Since downtown is pretty small you might want to consider this option.

Other than a cab ride to JFK and hopping on a plane............. 78 W to 81 S to 77 S You'll duck having to deal w/ Philly, Wilmington, Baltimore, DC and Richmond
2 :
Contact the people at this website since truck drivers know the best routes and the people at this site are more than helpful.

Based on some proprietary data that I have at work, I checked a route from Madison Square Garden to Charlotte Douglas International Airport leaving at 1 PM and got a travel time of 10 hours and 46 minutes. The routing was out the Lincoln Tunnel to I-95 to I-78 to I-81 to I-77 to I-85 to the Charlotte Airport. I checked the I-95 Corridor Travel Time Information website at the 1st link below and at 1 PM got a travel time from the GW Bridge to Charlotte of 10 hours and 44 minutes with a “normal” travel time of 10 hours and 4 minutes. So, it looks like with traffic both routes will take about the same, so I guess the choice is yours as to which route to take. I would think that the I-95 route would have more tools though, but I am not certain about that. If you have an iPhone, INRIX (a leading traffic data company) makes it traffic data available for free on major roads throughout the country – more details at the 2nd link below. Good luck and safe travels!

I know a great site that is very competitive and most cases cheaper than other major sites. Compare the other guys with: http://AllAccess-Travel.com Good Luck!
2 :
southwest air is running summer flight specials....you can get a one way flight for 49 bucks if you book early!!!
3 :
Search for your flights on YTB Travel - Amazing Tours and Travel www.amazingtoursandtravel.com
4 :
Southwest doesn't serve GSP, ATL, CLT, any airport nearby. I searched from IAH and Hobby to GSP, CLT, and ATL, and also to AVL (Asheville), CAE (Columbia, SC), and AHN (Athens, Georgia) since these are all as close or closer than just Charlotte or Atlanta. For first week July, best available currently are $280rt total to Atlanta on Delta and Airtran. Next-cheapest city is Asheville at $312 total with USAir; CLT $346 USAir.

About What is your opinion of Charlotte, NC (from people who live there) preferably, and have lived there

What is your opinion of Charlotte, NC (from people who live there) preferably, and have lived there?
My wife and I are 30-36 professionals with no children. We are considering relocating to the Charlotte, NC area, as we prefer urban culture, yet a safe and youthful environment, with good location to travel north and south on the east coast. Please share your experiences and advice :)

If you are from the South origionally, it is a great place. If you are relocating from the North, I would not recommened anywhere in North Carolina. I am a relocated Yankee from NY living in NC and have found that "Yankees" like me are not welcomed by the natives. No offense to you if you are a Southerner. Its just been my experience.

i lived in several parts of north carolina my family resides there but my personal opinion of charlotte, nc is its not what it is cut out to be, there were lots of homeless and criminal activity,i will not move my own immedate family there, myself and my girlfriend and i just had a new addition to the family nine months ago and that side of my family still has not seen the baby.

I like that place, I don't live there. I just visited.. Lots of trees (Green -- Hilly area) I love to live there..

Charlotte does have a lot going on in the area, just pick up a Charlotte Observer and there is this other little local free paper (can't remember the name) that's good, but as I remember it there were a lot of violent crimes in some areas. Not so much gang activity as it was just people getting in fights and shooting each other. If you are looking at buying a house you can definitely get a lot for your money there. I grew up in a city very near Charlotte but refuse to move back there because it's just too humid. Good luck to you.

Sorry, I am a Southerner, born in Atlanta. My son worked for Georgia Pacific and Atlas Roofing in Charlotte for several years. I was fortunate enough to visit him there in downtown locations and well as the south booming side of town. He would probably still be there if it were not for a job change he made. He is in Atlanta now, but would rather live in Charlotte. It is a neat city to live in, like Atlanta was many years ago.
